Youth Hustings

Clwyd Scouts are proud to be bringing Youth Hustings 2026 to Rhyl, creating a space where young people can speak directly to decision makers and learn more about the opportunities available to them locally.
Organised by our Area Youth Lead, Aimee Curtis, the event is open to both Scouts and non Scouts aged 14 to 25 from Denbighshire, Flintshire, Montgomeryshire and Wrexham.
PLEASE – help us share this information to all Explorer Scouts, Young Leaders, Network members and adult volunteers aged 18-25.

We’re proud of you Grace!

Grace Owens, a Beaver team member with 1st Northop Hall, was on a night out with friends in Cardiff, where she goes to university. On the way home in a taxi one of the friends passed out and they were unable to wake her. Knowing that she has a condition called POTS they called an ambulance.
Grace took her friend out of the taxi and performed CPR until the ambulance crew arrived and took over. Grace said that she would not have felt so confident had it not been for the training she had done in Scouts. She’s an inspiration to us all!
Has your Section been doing something you’d like to share with the rest of the Area, and maybe even the world?
Are you Clwyd’s own Bear Grylls?

Clwyd are planning a survival challenge which will pit pairs of adult volunteers from each District to see who are the best.
We want each pair to send regular video updates so we can engage young people who will vote for who they think is doing the best.
The aim is to get young people involved in cheering on their District’s versions of Bear Grylls, and also to get the message out to the wider public the fun adult volunteers have!
If you think you have what it takes – get in touch!

Georgia is off to Ghana

A volunteer with Wrexham Scouts is heading to Ghana after being selected as one of just 20 young people across the UK – and only two in Wales – to take part in a prestigious humanitarian programme.
Georgia Ellams, 19 from Wrexham, will be joining Scouts from across the UK travelling to the country in Africa this Christmas. They will work in small groups to deliver a project working closely with the rural communities, which will hopefully lead to Georgia earning the Scouts of the World Award.

We need your photos so we can share the magic of Scouts
Could you hit Ian’s target?

Ian McLean from Wrexham is hanging up his bow and arrows after almost 20 years as an archery assessor.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Ian for helping thousands of young people hit their first gold through the sessions he’s run himself, and via the other volunteers he trained up.
If you’d like to become an archery instructor or assessor, please contact Roger Cragg for a chat about what’s involved.

Help us shout for Scouting

To help us get more coverage of Scouts out to the general public, and attract more volunteers and young people, we’d like as many Groups and Units as possible to name a ‘media contact’ – someone who we can contact for a great photo or details of what your Sections have been up to.
Could Group Lead Volunteers and Explorer Scout Teams think who in their Groups and Units have the skills to get you noticed and get in touch to let us know who they are.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for all you do!
