Rydym yn gweithio ar ffyrdd o wneud Scouts yn lle i siaradwyr Cymraeg berthyn iddo. Wrth i ni wneud cynnydd, byddwn yn diweddaru’r dudalen hon.

Mae ScoutsCymru yn darparu bathodyn am ddim i siaradwyr Cymraeg y gellir ei wisgo ar eich gwisg.
Bathodyn Enw Cymraeg
Wrth archebu bathodyn enw eich Scouts, yn ogystal ag ychwanegu eich rôl yn y Gymraeg, beth am ddefnyddio’r maes cyfryngau cymdeithasol i roi gwybod i bobl eich bod chi’n siarad Cymraeg neu’n dysgu Cymraeg? Chwiliwch am ‘Name badge’ ar y Ganolfan Brand.
Scouts yn yr Eisteddfod
Roedd ScoutsClwyd yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn Wrecsam 2025 i siarad â phobl a gwrando ar eu barn o’r Scouts.
Rydym am wybod sut y gallwn wneud defnydd gwell o’r iaith Gymraeg, dathlu ein treftadaeth Gymreig a bod yn fwy croesawgar i’r rhai sy’n siarad Cymraeg.
Os oes gennych unrhyw syniadau sut y gallwn wneud hyn, cysylltwch â ni.
Scouts neu Sgowtiaid?
Cyfieithiad llythrennol y gair Saesneg ‘scouts’ yw ‘sgowtiaid’ ond gan fod ‘Scouts’ yn enw brand yna mae’n aros fel ‘Scouts’ yn y Gymraeg.
Efallai y byddwch chi’n gweld grwpiau Scouts eraill yn defnyddio ‘Sgowtiaid’ ond credwn eu bod nhw’n anghywir!

We are working on ways to make Scouts a place to belong for Welsh speakers. As we make progress we’ll update this page.
Just a few words
Just learning a few words of Welsh and using them in meetings will make young people and volunteers who speak Welsh more welcome, and it’s fine to mix Welsh and English.

Learning Welsh
Duolingo – Duolingo is a very handy app that’s easy to use as well as being free of charge. By downloading the app you can learn Welsh wherever you are, and you can tailor your daily lessons to a length you have time for. Even 5 minutes a day can help to improve your Welsh a lot!
Say Something in Welsh – SSIW is a website that is also free. Different to Duolingo, you start by learning one sentence without having to commit by signing up. You can also choose which dialect you would like to learn (North or South) and you can change this at any point. It is also split into different lessons, so you can sign in whenever suits you and complete the lessons in your own time and at your own pace.
Open University – this may sound a bit too official, but there’s no need to worry (we don’t expect you to do a degree!). This is another free course aimed at beginners. Not only does it teach you helpful words and phrases for conversational Welsh, but it also gives some insights into Welsh culture (especially helpful for anyone who has moved here from outside of Wales).
Welsh Government – the Welsh Government’s website also offers a wide range of courses and resources. Some are free and some you have to pay for, but all are helpful. Some go into more depth than others so if you decide you would like to learn more than beginners or conversational Welsh, you have the option to learn more with a more in-depth course.

Scouts at the Eisteddfod
Clwyd Scouts were at the 2025 National Eisteddfod in Wrexham to speak to people and listen to their views on Scouts.
We want to know how we can make better use of the Welsh language, celebrate our Welsh heritage and be more welcoming to those who speak Welsh.

Scouts or Sgowtiaid?
The literal translation of the English word ‘scouts’ is ‘sgowtiaid’ but as ‘Scouts’ is a brand name then it stays as ‘Scouts’ in Welsh.
You may see other Scout groups use ‘Sgowtiaid’ but we believe they are incorrect!
